Lucia Gemma Delogu (Khalifa Univ & Univ of Padua, United Arab Emirates/Italy)
Prof. Lucia Gemma Delogu is Head of the Immune-Nanolab at the University of Padua, Italy, and at Khalifa University of Science and Technology, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. She led several scientific initiatives in multiple renowned institutions, including the University of Southern California (Los Angeles, USA), the Sanford-Burnham Institute (San Diego, USA), the Technische Universität Dresden (TUD; Dresden, Germany), and New York University Abu Dhabi (UAE). Prof. Delogu has been the Scientific Coordinator of several multidisciplinary projects funded by the European Commission involving over 20 partners in Europe, the USA, and the Middle East in Academia and industry. She was awarded the prestigious ERC Advanced Grant for the project BIO-MX. Her research bridges material science, immunology, and nanobiotechnology, with a focus on 2D nanomaterials and environmental pollutants. She introduced the “NanoImmunity-by-design” concept and pioneered the use of high-dimensional single-cell approaches, including the use of single-cell mass cytometry in advanced materials. Her research is widely published in top journals, including Nature Nanotechnology, Advanced Materials, Nature Communications, Nano Today, and ACS Nano.

Laura Fusco (University of Padua, Italy)

Dr. Laura Fusco is Assistant Professor of Pathology at the Department of Biomedical Sciences, University of Padua, Italy. Her research focuses on the biomedical applications of advanced nanomaterials, including MXenes, graphene, and carbon nanomaterials, with particular emphasis on immunology, regenerative medicine, and space health. She obtained her Ph.D. from the University of Trieste within the framework of the EU Graphene Flagship, Europe’s largest research initiative on graphene and related materials.
Throughout her career, Dr. Fusco has conducted research at leading international institutions, including Karolinska Institutet (Sweden), Sidra Medicine (Qatar), Drexel University (USA), and Khalifa University (UAE). She has contributed to several multidisciplinary projects funded by the European Commission through Horizon 2020 and by the European Space Agency, and was awarded a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Global Individual Fellowship to investigate the biomedical applications of MXenes.
Dr. Fusco has received international recognition for her contributions to nanomedicine and advanced materials. In 2022, she was selected to participate in the prestigious Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting, bringing together outstanding young scientists and Nobel Laureates from around the world. Her work has been presented at major international conferences and contributes to the development of innovative nanomaterial-based strategies for human health, precision medicine, and space biotechnology.
